Many different things can happen if the automatic transmission in your automobile malfunctions. The best way to ensure you never end up with transmission trouble is to have the transmission serviced every 30,000 miles. We can do this at our shop. We can also repair the transmission if it breaks down.
SHIFTS TO NEUTRAL
A malfunctioning transmission may shift into neutral while you are driving your automobile. Unfortunately, this will instantaneously cut the power that the engine is producing. In addition, it will increase the RPMs in the engine.
HESITATES
A malfunctioning transmission may also hesitate for extended periods before it shifts from one gear to the next gear. This can increase the RPMs substantially. In addition, the transmission may also skip gears in the gear cycle.
DOESN’T RESPOND
Generally, the above problems are a precursor to the transmission failing to respond. In this case, the transmission simply will not work. It won’t go into gear. If you get it into gear, it won’t shift gears. You have a dead automatic transmission.
LEAKS FLUID
Another problem that can occur with a malfunctioning transmission is a fluid leak. The transmission fluid protects the transmission. It lubricates it and keeps it cool. Leaking fluid can reduce the level that is in the transmission and damage the transmission.
OVERHEATS
In addition, the leaking fluid will make the transmission overheat. As such, you will smell burning odors coming from the bottom of your automobile. It is important to have the leak repaired as soon as possible to prevent the overheating.
MAKES NOISE
The transmission can also make noise if it is malfunctioning. These noises include humming, squealing, clunking, and grinding. The only thing you want to hear when the transmission is in operation is the changes in the engine’s RPMs.
JOLTS THE CAR
A malfunctioning transmission may also jolt your car when it is in operation. For example, your vehicle may vibrate violently when the transmission shifts from first gear to second gear and so on. This could be a sign that the transmission fluid needs to be changed.
Finally, the main computer chip in your car, truck, or utility vehicle uses the check engine light to warn you of impending transmission doom. Consequently, if this light turns on, you need to head straight to our auto service shop. We will inspect the automatic transmission to find out what’s wrong.
